Abstract

This research article explores the pivotal role of the quarterly literary journal Sahifa in the
realm of Urdu translations of Western short stories. Over the years, Sahifa has significantly
contributed to the enrichment of Urdu literature by bringing translated works of renowned
global authors to its readership. The journal’s translations not only broadened the cultural and
literary horizons of Urdu readers but also deepened their understanding of universal themes,
including human psychology, social issues, and moral dilemmas. By analyzing key stories
translated and published in Sahifa, this paper highlights the journal's unique contribution to
bridging Western and Urdu literary traditions. The study examines various translators’
efforts, the challenges they faced, and the impact of these translations on the growth of
modern Urdu literature. Through this research, the role of Sahifa in promoting cross-cultural
literary exchange and its influence on the evolution of Urdu storytelling is thoroughly
assessed.
